So I've been surfing around...

I stumbled across crash data from the C-5 that crashed at Dover a while back. I'm not sure what the official "cause" was, but I'm sure it was pilot error with the mis-handling of the 3 engine landing. There were a couple of mistakes I noticed, but as usual it's not just one thing going wrong, it's many things at once. I think the last straw was the switching of the #2 and #3 throttle. This turned a mis-handled three engine landing into a horribly mis-handled two engine HEAVY landing. Pretty sad to put a perfectly flyable aircraft on the ground like that.

Very cool video of a BAE Hawk after taking a bird strike. Notice how calm they are as they gain altitude, attempt a restart, point the acft to a crash location, talk to the tower and eject.

Interesting video of a 757 taking a bird strike and then coming around for a emergency landing.

Super awesome video of an emergency landing. Skill or crazy luck, you call it.

Cool video of a landing on a very short and tight runway. This is at Princess Juliana Int.

F-16 "dead stick" landing. I guess that's a pretty big issue in a single engine aircraft.

Interesting video of a guy in a car flying an RC Airplane through a very long tunnel.

Short runway, big aircraft. Do the math...

Worth it? I think so...

So they finally have the tollway built right to my front door now. Before I had to drive to and from work via normal city streets. It didn't cost me any money but it cost me about 45 to 50 minutes each way. Well now the toll way is finished and it has changed my life.

First of all the time. It now takes me less than 20 minutes to get to work. Not only that but I get there at 75 mph and on cruise control. Lets say that it's this 20 minutes vs. our previous 50 minutes. That's a 30 minute savings, EACH WAY. Multiply that out and that is a savings of 260 hours every year.

Now the money... It now cost me $1.70 each way in tolls. If you multiply that out you end up with $884 each year. That's a lot of money to just drive to work. But is it worth $884 to save nearly 11 days worth of driving. I think so. That's 11 days I can use sleeping, playing, loving, working, learning, or just doing something crazy like being with family. It's worth it...

arrrrgggggg....

So I'm sittin at the Volkswagen dealership getting the 20,000 mile maintenance done on my "ride". I'm pretty much thoroughly frustrated with their internet access. They have it locked down pretty tight. Pretty much just web access and even then they have that pretty tight. No IM, no youtube, no WOW, no email, and something is up with accessing secure sites as well. Well you can pretty much assume that next time I come back here I'll have me a proxy that I can access via port 80 so I can do my thang...  Anyway, I guess I'll get back to doing some bills and waiting for my waiting for my wheels...

Long time no type...

So I got this new laptop this past week. I got an Apple Macbook Pro 17" 2.4GHz laptop. Let's just say it's just awesome. I pretty much haven't touched my iMac since I got it. Yeah, it's for work, but what does that really mean. Well it means I have The Sims2 and World of Warcraft on it. That's what it means. :) Anyway, here's a quick peek at it....

Scarry Stuff...

As someone who once wore the blue and gold wings of the 9th AS video like this always scares me. Thank goodness it was just at take off and that it was a helicopter. Imaging this happened on a fixed wing aircraft and you couldn't just sit back down. You had to go around and attempt a landing while dumping fuel and running checklist.
