Job Hunt…..

Today I was applying for a job at a health care company. They are always a pain in the ass. They asked me to describe how I would design and implement subnetting, VLSM, and CIDR. Now I’m sure you are thinking the exact thing I was thinking, “What in the hell are you talking about”. Well I didn’t know how to deal with this so I just went on through the application and was just about to finish with out answering the question. I decided that I’d go back and see what I could do with that question. Well first thing I had to do was look up and find out what VLSM (Variable Length Subnet Masking) and CIDR (Classless Inter-Domain Routing) means. Ok, now I know what those acronyms mean but what are they. I spent the next thirty minutes to an hour reading about them. All of a sudden the light clicked on. I have not had “ANY” education in networking and have just learned it by necessity. It was at this moment that I figured out that I’d been using VLSM and CIDR for years and just didn’t know that was what it was called. Now that I knew, I knew what I was talking about, I spent almost an hour writing a two page response in great detail to their question. So I’ve sent off the application and am hoping for the best. Don’t you hate it when you know something that you don’t know you know….

How to tell if your unemployed……

Most people are bright enough to be able to tell if they are unemployed or not. For those who just aren't sure below are a few tips to clue you in on sure signs you are unemployed. Keep in mind this is just day 2 but boredom has already set in. First sign, you dust the "back" of the TV. Not like anybody will ever see it but just knowing it's there. Second, while making tuna cassarole (skillet type) you stand at the stove so you can clean up the spillage as it spills out instead of waiting until the end and then cleaning it all up at once. Finally, If you find yourself watching either Oprah or Days of our lives.

Job Hunt…..

So today I was supposed to have an interview with a head hunter. I was a little uneasy about them. I looked them up on the Internet. I think Brandt does a lot better web sites than this group. I figured "I need a job" so I'll give them a chance. Jeff, a guy here at work is looking for a job and he asked the name and then said, "Are they located on 75 about 1/2 mile north of Arapaho" and they were of course. He said he'd gone there and they went through the whole interview and then told him it'd cost him $3200 for there services. I don't think I'll pay them for something I can do myself. So anyway, I emailed the lady and asked her if I would incur any charges for using their services or would that be placed on the employer. She of course wouldn't email me back, so I emailed her again and told her I couldn't make the appointment and she emailed me back 10 minutes later on that one. So needless to say I probably won’t be going to that interview......

:(

Well I got my first rejection letter today reguarding a resume I sent in for a job. I applied for two jobs at this place and I really hope this was for the first job and not the second job. The second, I am perfect for. It looks like I was made for that job, so I still have my fingers crossed. I'm not used to being turned down like that in my professional life. My personal life I pretty much expect it, but at work I really don't. Well anyway, I going to get back to working on the site. Maybe tweaking my resume a bit....

Another Day, Another 50 Cents…….

So I got up this morning, tested my blood (it was pretty good at 102), dropped Brandt off at school, came to work, updated a change on my resume, checked hotjobs and monster for new openings, and am now surfing the web. I've already got everything I had planned for today done. Does that mean I can go home now. I'm not doing any good setting here taking up space and breathing up their air. Well I guess that's not completely true. Later I may pull my pictures off the wall. I only have three of them. An autographed Jeff Gordon, a autographed Dale Earnhardt, and a C5 from my old squadron. I might also sort through all my pens and stuff in my desk and decide what I'm going to take with me and what I'm going to leave. See, the options are just endless. Well I guess I better get at it then. So until next time, "Game Over".

New Deal……

So I had a little talk with my boss the other day. We have agreed on a new deal for my eventual termination. I'll be working until the end of March and then receive 4 weeks of severance. I guess that's not a terrible deal. At least I know it's coming so I can look for another job. If anyone knows of anybody needing a good network engineer type of guy please let me know. So basic this means that they will have time to restock the supply closet before I leave. BRING ON THE STAPLES!
