Today I contacted Dell about our HDD. Evidently we have the "Keep your hard drive" warrenty. I've never even heard of anything like that but I like it. I didn't really want to send back an operational or partially operational hard drive with sensitive data on it.

I asked if i could drill it or disable it any manor other than a simple wipe. They just said keep it. I don't know what they would do with it anyway.

This morning I've been installing software on the new citrix server. I guess i'll need to install all this stuff on the backup server as well, but that'll wait till another day. Right now the app of the hour is Visual Fox Pro 9. As much as I hate VFP our company refuses to see the light and continues to use it.

I'm also attempting to recover data from a failed hard drive of one of our programmers. It's been running about 15 hours now and it's just at 1%. It has recovered quite a bit of data so far and looks like it's moving again. Hopefully it'll finish soon. Gotta get the data off and then go to Dell to get a replacement drive.

Move to new hosting nearly complete...

The move to new hosting nearly complete. All the domains and URL's have been moved over execpt the base domain williamhughes.net. I still need to test all the IFLYJET's and BRANDTHUGHES's but I'm pretty sure they are all set. Most of the content has been moved in one fashion or another. Some of the PHP specific stuff won't be makeing the move. That would basically be the random google image generator and the Live Journal images. Not a huge loss if I can't find some other way of doing it. I may convert them to javascript if I get really bored.

Something to keep me less crazy...

So I've been thinking of a project or something to do to keep me from going crazy. Here is what I've come up with so far.

First, let me say, these are just the bullet points. I'll figure out all the inbetween stuff at a later date.

So when I come home from work, I open the garage door with the opener right. What I was thinking is not working with the opener, but with the light bulb on the opener. It's always on when the door opens or closes and a little bit after it's finished.

What if I take some power off the back of this bulb assembly and convert it to something a bit more useful. Let's say 12 vdc.

Then run that power over to the back of the garage and into a ulrasonic transmiter and reciever. A radar of sorts. This device would allow me to "see" how close I am to the "radar" when parking the car in the garage. A small chip I could then do things when I get to certain distances.

I think at a minimum I'd like to turn on a light indicating that I was in a good parking spot. I'd also like to send a signal via a tone generator or something to a fm transmitter. This would allow me to have an audio as well as a visual indicator of my position.

So that's it. Sure I could use the current system, bump up against a brick with the tire, but that's not much fun.
